License Agreement
Last updated August 26, 2026
The short version
What you buy from us is a subscription giving you updates, downloads and support for a set number of sites, for a year at a time. Your rights in the software itself are set by the license that accompanies it.
The software's license
Every Ptova product is distributed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later, as declared in the software itself. That license travels with the code and governs what you may do with it. Nothing on this page adds to or takes away from it.
This agreement covers something separate: the services you buy from us, and the license key that gives you access to them.
What your subscription buys
Your subscription is for the services around the software, not permission to use it. It entitles you, while it is active, to:
- Automatic update notices and downloads delivered to your activated sites.
- Access to download the current release from your account.
- Support from us by email.
This is why lapsing does not "switch off" software you already installed. It ends your access to our services.
Sites and activation
Each plan covers a number of sites: one, five, or unlimited. A "site" is one hostname, determined as follows — and this is exactly what our license server does, not an approximation:
- The scheme, port and path are ignored, so
http://andhttps://are the same site. - A leading
www.is stripped, sowww.example.comandexample.comcount as one. - Any other subdomain is a separate site.
staging.example.comandexample.comeach use an activation. - Re-activating a site you have already activated does not consume another slot.
You can see and manage your activations from your account.
Your license key
A license key is a credential for our update and download services, in the same way a password is. It is issued to you, and you agree not to share, publish, resell or sublicense it, or use one key to obtain updates for more sites than your plan covers.
This restriction is a term of our agreement with you about our services. It is separate from the license that accompanies the software: that license governs the code, this governs the key.
If a key is shared or published, we may revoke it. Where we reasonably can, we will contact you first.
Term, renewal and lapse
- A subscription runs for one year and renews automatically unless cancelled.
- Cancelling stops future charges but does not shorten the term you have paid for.
- When a subscription lapses, delivery of updates for that license stops and support ends.
- Lapse, cancellation and refund end your access to our services. They do not change the license that accompanies code you already have.
Renewing restores update delivery. Your key and your activated sites are still there.
Support
Support covers our software: installation, configuration, defects, and questions about how it works. It does not cover custom development, changes made to the code on your side, or problems caused by other plugins, themes or hosting. We answer by email at hello@ptova.com.
Trademarks
The software's license covers the code, not our name or branding. "Ptova" and the Ptova logo are our trademarks, and you may not use them in a way that suggests we produced, endorsed or are affiliated with something we did not.
Warranty and liability
The software is provided without warranty, as set out in the license that accompanies it and in our Terms of Service. Our liability is limited as described there.
